With the start of school for my boy and the beginning of new season for all of us brings much needed organization.
Yes, we are that family that really tries to get a grip on life and hold on to family.
Summers can be crazy with “willy nilly” schedules and unexpected events. Which are all usually a blast, but now’s our time to buckle down.
Sunday we had our family meeting, as it had somewhat disappeared the past few months. I’m glad it’s back.
Our agenda for the evening was
1. Family Mission
We developed a family mission statement some years ago when our kids were little and so every time we sit down together we go over our mission and what it is to be apart of The Edwards Family.
Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
2. Personal Goals
We usually have the kids think and write these out ahead of time and then share them during the meeting. My husband and I will discuss with them their plan of action and get into agreement with them regarding the goals they have set to accomplish. We also share our own goals with our kids, as we believe they can also hold us accountable.
So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision…
3. Family Schedules & Duties
Who’s doing what, where, when, why and how?? What time is lights out and whose turn is it to walk Mochaccino again? I like to remind the kids to prefer one another and not let a list or activity get in the way of loving on each other. Sometimes we can be so focused on what WE have going on, we forget the importance of others and their time.
Let all things be done decently and in order.
I love family meetings.
Honestly, every year the Lord gives us a theme for our school year. And though Breezy is not in school any longer, September has always been a new year for us as a family.
Since we take everything God gives us very special and because it’s so fresh, I will not share the exact word/theme, but let me tell you, IT’S GOOD!
He never ceases to amaze me! Can’t wait to get the GO to share!
We’ve had a year of ups and downs and tons of changes, but God has been faithful. He has assured us of His loving kindness.
I am excited for a new season.
So, that pretty much sums up our family meetings. I ran across this saying below and it made me giggle, but definitely says parenting to me.
You know I read this to my kids at the end of our meeting right?!
